Seventy years ago tomorrow, we mark the end of the Second World War. This week, a special episode addressing some of the fall out that still remains.  Plus stories from the Koreas, Bangladesh, and more.

Japan has apologized enough: Right or Wrong?

It’s a tune that hasn’t changed much over the past few years, and one that has actually increased in tempo as we’ve neared the 70th anniversary of World War II – Japan must admit wrongdoing and apologize for its actions during the war.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he will stand by previous apologies and express remorse in his address marking the end of the great conflict that consumed the world in the 1940s, but will what the Prime Minister says be enough and what can we expect from Japan as it moves to be a bigger player in Asia?

To answer that, I spoke with Franz-Stefan Gady, Senior Fellow at the EastWest Institute.

When it comes to the 70th anniversary of World War II, most have turned their attention to Japan and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. However, in recent years, China has steadily asserted itself, mirroring several tactics employed by Japan prior to 1941. In fact, the Milken Institute’s Curtis S Chin even asked, is new China the old Japan?

So as we come upon this August 15th, what exactly are we seeing with China and what impact could Beijing’s activities have on the region?

Scott Harold, Deputy Director, Center for Asia Pacific Policy at the RAND Corporation returns to discuss.
